Irina Hasnas

Since 1982, I have chosen studies in visual arts: first in Bucharest, then Aubusson and Berlin.
After university, I experienced museography at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, and after a few more years, I pursued Museum Studies in Philadelphia, a specialty studied only in the Anglo-Saxon world.

Having graduated with an MFA in the USA, I am currently a doctorant in history-museography in Romania, researching the role of artist-curator involvement in creating unique and intelligent exhibitions/museums.
In both my studio work and my museographical work (design and pedagogy), I make extensive use of the countless visits to museums and exhibits, sites and monuments, as well as the many resources collected in my travels.

I am currently a freelancer and I am interested in modern treatment of recent history in old and new museums and in collaborations, public or private, local or international.

In Bucharest, Râmnicu Sărat, Venice and Szombathely I have shown my works dedicated to the victims of Communism in Romania, in individual and group exhibits in very different spaces. I have also designed exhibits dedicated to recent history at the National History Museum and the Museum of the Romanian Peasant. Through artistic stylization of portraits, information and symbols from former victims of Communism, I draw public attention to models to be followed in our contemporary lives. My collaboration with IICCMER, which has already been going for 5 years, I would like to make long-term. I would consider “The Prison of Silence at Râmnicu Sărat” a success if it respectfully preserved what has remained as a testament to the past, bravely exposed its varied history and generously shared information about itself.
