The workshop, organized by the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMRE), with the support of Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Ramnicu Sarat City Hall, is focused on the creation of a memorial and information center at Ramnicu Sarat, dedicated to the victims of communism in Romania.

Located 145 km north of Bucharest, Ramnicu Sarat is considered to be the most feared prison of the communist period, which made  it into the extermination prison for interwar political elite.
Prominent professionals in creating exhibitions and museum specialists from all over Europe come to Ramnicu Sarat between September 12-15 to share their experience and vision on a central theme: creating an innovative project that would  expressively capture the universe of the communist prison and of the Romanian communist regime, in innovative and convincing ways, while also preserving the ancient prison, as well as building an information center targeting a large audience.

The workshop will also focus on the museum concept and phenomenon that are rapidly developing, on the recent evolutions in the means of exhibiting and  visualization, the importance of architecture and interior design in setting up an exhibition.

Our final aim is to transform the former Ramnicu Sarat prison into a permanent place of remembrance, reflection, education and research, which benefits from innovative communication, management and architecture.
